Lancaster vs Bennett

Friday Night the Lancaster Legends will be traveling to Orchard Park, NY to Highmark Stadium to play in the 2023 Section VI Class AA Championship game. This is the 8th straight time the Legends have played in the game. They will be facing the Bennett Tigers who are also in the Championship game for a 3rd straight time.

The squads met at All-High Stadium in week 5 when the Tigers were able to earn a 44-20 victory.

The winner will move on in the State Playoffs and face the Section V winner and play at Williamsville South HS on November 18th. That game will feature either McQuaid Jesuit Knights or the University Prep Griffins. McQuaid is looking to win their 5th straight section championship.

Last Time Out

The last time we saw the Legends they were on Foyle-Kling Field for the last time facing the Jamestown Red Raiders. They won the toss but deferred to the 2nd half.

The Red Raiders would pick up a few 1st downs and drive down the field but they had to turn over the ball on downs.

Lancaster brought out the offense and started the drive on their own 27 yard line. The first play was a swing pass that was caught and run all the way down to the north endzone, Legends up 8-0 after a 2-point conversion was good.

The teams would trade punts with the Lanaster kick getting to the Jamestown 19 where the Red Raiders started the drive. They were able to pick up some 1st downs and move the ball down the field.

Jamestown attempted a screen pass that a Legends defender separated the ball from the running back and Lancaster jumped on the ball, 1st and 10 Legends at the 43.

Lancaster had moved the ball inside the 20 but were pushed back on penalties to a 1st and 30 from the Jamestown 35. They threw a pass for 15 yards to make it 2nd and 15. The very next play a WR was wide open in the back of the endzone, Legends up 15-0.

The teams would trade punts the rest of the way before heading to the locker rooms for halftime. The Red Raiders did get deep into the Lancaster end but the Legends defense came up with an interception that stopped the drive.

The Legends started with the ball in the 2nd half at the 16 yard line. They would not waste any time with this drive. They would move the ball down the field and get into the red zone. On a 2nd and 9 from the 16, the offense threw a pass to the tight end for a nice pitch and catch for another TD, Legends up 22-0.

Jamestown came out throwing the ball, they were not going to go away easily. One of those passes did end as a touchdown, for the Legends. A pick-6 that was caught from the 20 yard line was run back, Lancaster up 29-0.

The Red Raiders had a nice drive start on their next possession and were able to bring the ball to the Legends 16 but had to turn the ball back on downs.

The Lancaster offense moved the ball down the field, eating up yards and the clock. A short run up the middle from the 3 brought the score to 36-0.

Jamestown did earn a touchdown later in the 4th quarter to bring the final, 36-7, Legends moving on!
