This Friday Night the Legends of Lancaster High School will be traveling to Orchard Park, NY to play at New Era Field for the 2nd Straight year for the right to be called Section VI Champions. They will be facing the Williamsville North Spartans. This will be the 25th meeting between the schools with Lancaster holding a 14-9-1 advantage in the series. The first meeting with Williamsville came in 1922, Lancaster won 39-0. In 1923 the teams would face each other twice, week 4 and again in week 7. Lancaster won the first game 12-0 but would lose the second 6-0.
Last week Jamestown came to the town of Lancaster for the right to play at New Era Field and were soundly defeated by the Legends 61-12. Lancaster would tie a record for points scored in a game set this year against Niagara-Wheatfield. Read more about Lancaster/Jamestown!
2 weeks ago in the quarterfinals Lancaster played Hutch Tech and were able to get a win 35-0. Ryan Mansell went 12-19 passing for 166 yards and threw for 3 TD's. Read more about Lancaster/Hutch Tech!
Last year when they played in this contest they faced the Orchard Quakers and won 27-7 to move on in state playoffs. Lancaster would score two TD's in the 2nd quarter to get to the half up 14-0. They would get one touchdown in the 3rd and 4th before OP could answer with a score of their own. The Legends would win their first Section VI championship since 1999.
Lancaster and Williamsville North met up last year in Week 4 at Foyle-Kling Field and the Legends were able to get a 42-14 win over the Spartans. Lancaster would use 434 yards of offense to help get those 42 points while only giving up 160 yards.
Lancaster leads the series 14-9-1. Many of the games fell between 1954 thru 1967 with each team winning 6 games and 1 tie. The squads met for one other post season game in 2003 for a Class AA Bowl Game, Lancaster won 26-19.
