Lancaster vs Bennett
This upcoming Friday Night the Lancaster Legends will be traveling to Buffalo, NY to face the Class AA reigning State Champions Bennett Tigers at All-High Stadium. The teams come into the game both undefeated at 4-0. Bennett has played their out of league games in the first 2 weeks of the season, Lockport and McKinley. Lancaster will play them in the last 2 weeks with Canisius and Depew.
Last Time Out
In arguably one of the better football games played this year in Section VI, the Lancaster Legends beat the Orchard Park Quakers to stay undefeated in Class AA.
Lancaster would start with the ball but would have to punt with only 1:45 taken off the board. The Quakers were able to take the ball down the field to inside the 10 yard line. The Lancaster defense would stop Orchard Park and push them to a 4th down play. OP would attempt a play on that 4th down after having the ball for close to 6 minutes. They would roll out the QB to the right side where he tried to run it in but was stopped by the Legends defense.
On the next drive for Lancaster, they would earn a 1st down but would have to punt the ball back to the visitors where they started near midfield.
Orchard Park would get the ball within the 10 yard line again with this possession. This time the drive ended with a Touchdown for OP, extra point good, 7-0.
Lancaster Defense near the goal line against Orchard Park
The Legends would have the ball at 24 yard line with over 9 minutes left in the half. The first play of the drive was a nice pitch and catch that took the ball to the Lancaster 43. They would move into OP territory but faced a 4th and 2 at the Quaker 49. Lancaster lined up but did not need to run a play as a Quaker defender came across the line and gave a 1st down to the home team. The very next play from the OP 44, RB Chris Gill ran the ball down the field and across the goal line for a TD, 7-7. The quarter would continue but neither team would score again and went to the half tied, 7up.
Gill getting through the line for a TD
The 2nd half started with Orchard Park getting the ball and they were able to move it down the field. They ended up getting a 37 yard field goal to move ahead 10-7. They also took off 6 plus minutes on the clock, keeping the Lancaster offense on the sidelines.
That time on the sidelines did not hurt the Lancaster offense as they took the ball next and were able to move down the field. They threw a pass to the flats that connected and the WR found his way over the goal line, 14-10 Lengends up.
Celebration after the Touchdown against OP
The Quakers started the 4th quarter with the ball and with momentum as they drove the ball towards the goal line. With a run up the middle from 8 yards out, the Quakers would grab the lead 17-14 with 11:01 left in the game.
The next Lancaster drive would end in an interception and Orchard Park having the ball at their own 41. The defense for the home team would step up again and force OP to punt the ball with 6:43 left in the game.
The Legends would start at their own 21 yard line and after an OP offsides penalty, 1st and 5. They would move the ball to their own 37 and would look at a 4th and 7. A pass to the Lancaster sideline would be caught by WR Sebastian Perna, picked up enough for a 1st down and kept the drive alive. The very next play the Legends ran a pass play that connected right down the middle of the field and WR Blake Minsterman ran the ball all the way to the south end for a Touchdown, Lancaster went ahead 21-17.
Touchdown catch and run against Orchard Park
Orchard Park would get the ball back with 4:10 left but were unable to get their offense going. They would face a 4th and 1 at midfield and the Legends defense stopped them to preserve the victory!
