Lancaster vs Orchard Park

The Lancaster football team will be on Foyle/Kling Field this Friday Night to face the Orchard Park Quakers for a 7pm Kickoff. It will be the 4th straight Class AA game the Legends will play this season. They do not have a non-league game until week 7 when they face the Canisius Crusaders.

Competition Steps UP

The level of competition will begin to rise the next few weeks with the Quakers coming to town this week. The first 3 teams of the season the Legends have faced have a combined record of 2-7. The next 3 have a combined record of 8-1. Canisius maybe 0-3 but they are still considered one of the top teams in WNY as they are ranked #8 in the Large School Poll released this week. The Crusaders have played 1 team from Pennsylvania and 2 from Ohio. They will face St. Joe's this week at home.

Last Time Out

Last week the Frontier Falcons would travel north to Foyle/Kling Field to face the Legends. Lancaster would start with the ball deep in their own end after a mishandle on the kickoff. They were able to bring the ball out on a long run to midfield. The home team would be backed up with a penalty and the drive would end in a punt.

The Frontier drive would not fare any better as penalties would push them back in their own end. They would end up attempting to punt but the ball would get away from the kicker. He was able to get the kick off and the Legends would stay away from it when it landed. It would be downed by the Falcons at their own 34 yard line. Lancaster would move the ball down the field and get into the redzone. On a 3rd and 5 from the 7 yard line, the Legends QB threw a pass to the flats that connected and the WR got into the endzone, 7-0 with the extra point good.

The next Frontier drive would end in a turnover and Lancaster would take advantage of it. On a 1st and Goal at the 4 yard line, the Legends ran in for this score, 14-0.

Lancaster would score again with 4:32 left in the 3rd Quarter when a 65 yard run crossed the goal line, Legends up 21-0. The Legends would score 2 more times to bring the score to 35-0 to get the W.

Lancaster Alumni

This past Saturday the Buffalo State Bengals were on the road against Dean and beat them 41-7. Lancaster Alum Noah Kimble, Ian Behrens, Andrew Miller, Cody Phillips, and Jeff Burgess are on the team with Cody picking up 120 yards rushing. Read more about the game.

Class AA

In Class AA action this week, the Bennett Tigers will travel north along the I-190 to Niagara Falls to face the Wolverines. Frontier will be at Strider Field to take on the Jamestown Red Raiders. Hutch Tech will be the team playing an out of league game when they travel to Starpoint HS to meet the Spartans.

Depew vs Springville

Keeping an eye on cross town rival Depew, the Wildcats welcomed Springville to Frank Constantino Sports Complex last week. The team would find themselves down 23-8 until they turned it on for a comeback to win the game 28-23. They have beaten Tonawanda in week 1: 39-12, and Olean: 27-8 and are now 3-0 on the season. Lancaster-Orchard Park History

Lancaster and Orchard Park have a long history of playing against each other. The first 2 games would be in 1961 and 1962. They met again in 1968 but would take a long break until 1989. They have met every year ever since and sometimes have played twice in a year.

Those times they have met twice was for the Section VI Championship, which has happened 5 times. The last being in the Spring of 2021 when they played at Foyle-Kling Field. It was a close game that saw the Quakers score first to go up 7-0 early on. Lancaster would answer that score with one of their own later in the 1st Quarter to tie the game.
