Lancaster vs Lockport

The Legends will be traveling to Lockport, NY on Saturday to face the Lions for a 2pm kickoff. Lockport was in Class A last year when they went to Highmark Stadium for the Section Championship. Last Time Out

Week 1 of the 2024 season saw one of the best games played, possibility for the season, at Foyle-Kling Field. The Legends met the Knights on what started out as a comfortable, overcast night. It was a game of two halves, Lancaster in the 1st and McQuaid in the 2nd.

The Legends had a long kickoff return to the McQuaid 41 yard line. The offense would not waste time moving the ball down the field and with a little help from a defensive offsides, get a 1st down. The squad crossed the goalline on a rush from the 12 yard line on 1st and 10. The extra point was good, 7-0 Legends.

The McQuaid first time with the ball ended with a punt and a Lancaster drive start at the McQuaid 49. The Legends would get pushed back on a snap that went over the QB's head and ended up on their own 34 yard line and would be forced to punt.

The teams would trade punts until the home team started a drive at the Knights 17yard line in the 2nd Quarter. The offense would move the ball to their own 41 when the faced a 4th and 1. Head Coach Eric Rupp decided to go for it and relied on his offensive line to get the job done. They ran the ball and kept the drive alive. Just a few plays later, a pass across the middle of the field went the distance and the Lancaster Legends were up 14-0 after the PAT.

The 2nd half started with the Knights in possession of the ball at their own 28. They were able to move the ball down the field and on a sweep to the right side of the offense, get themselves in the endzone, 14-7 with a kick that went between the uprights.

Lancaster would get the ball back but were unable to move it and ended up punting. The visitors were once again able to move the ball and on a pass down the middle of the field, connect with a WR for a TD, 14-14, 1:17 left in the 3rd Q.

The 4th Quarter have both teams have a chance to get ahead on the score board but the defenses would hold and the game would go into overtime.

The overtime began with the ball in the Legends hands, 1st and 10 at the 20 on the north side of the field. They would face a 4th and 9 from the 19 with the need to get a 1st. They would get that with a pass to the 9 yard line, 1st and goal. The team would get a TD on a run up the middle from the 2, 20-14.

McQuaid started at the same spot on the north side of Foyle-Kling Field. The Knights would earn a 1st down and get a TD to bring the score to 20 up. The point after kicks would be a difficult task for both teams as the rain kept coming down. The teams would change side and McQuaid started on offense on the south side of the field.

It would not take them long to get in the endzone. The very first play, a run up the middle brought the score 27-20.

Lancaster did not take long either to score on their attempt. A pass on the left side of the field would be caught and the WR brought the ball over the goal line, 27-26, McQuaid up with the extra point up coming.

The team brought their offense onto the field with a 2 point attempt. The ball would be snapped, the QB went back and looked over the field, found a WR open near the corner. The ball would go over the hands of the WR giving the win to the visitors
