Lancaster vs Niagara Falls

The Lancaster Legends will be on the road Saturday afternoon when they head to Niagara Falls to face the Wolverines. They have played their slate of home games for the '24 season and will finish the year as the visitors. Niagara Falls is 4-2 on the year with wins over West Seneca West, Niagara Wheatfield, Hutch Tech, and Lockport. In week 2, They took OP to overtime but fell 28-34.

Last Time Out

The Legends kicked off to the Red & Green to start the game and Jamestown would be able to pick 2 first downs by running the ball. At midfield they went for a 4th down and 3 but the Lancaster defense held and the ball would be turned over.

The Legends were able to get the ball down field with a mix of runs and short passes. They would face their own 4th down at the Red & Green's 25 yard line but were unable to pick up enough yards to keep the drive alive, Jamestown ball.

That drive for Jamestown would end up going in the wrong direction and the visitors were forced to punt. A short kick gave the Legends the ball at the Jamestown 35. The very first play of that drive, a run up the middle that was bounced to the right brought the ball to the 3. The next play, a run into the end zone for 6 points, Legends up 7-0 after the PAT.

The squads would both punt on the next possessions until Jamestown got things going.

If there was any dust on Foyle-Kling Field, the Red & Green would kick it up on this drive as they ran the ball for short pickups but enough to earn 1st downs. They moved the ball to the 2 yard line and again ran the ball. The snap was true but the handoff was fumbled and the Legends jumped on the loose ball, 1st and 10 Lancaster with 1:54 left in the half. The Legends would be deep in their own end but moved the ball away from the North end zone to midfield. A long pass was intercepted by Jamestown at their own 25 with 10 seconds left. They ran the ball and the half would end with the Home team up.

The 2nd half began with both teams unable to move the ball and sustain any drive to the end zone.

It would not be until 3:51 left in the 3rd that Lancaster put together a drive that moved deep into the Jamestown end. The help of a roughing the passer call would move the ball even deeper. They would end up facing a 4th down from the 15 but a pass attempt went over the WR's head and the ball would be turned over on downs.

Jamestown would not waste any time on this next drive as they passed the ball that connected for a 85 yard TD, 7-7 after the PAT.

The Legends would begin with the ball to start the 4th quarter and get things moving. They did not make things easy on themselves as penalties would push them back. A screen to the RB picked up 15 on a 2nd and 20 and moved the ball into the Jamestown end. A short pitch and catch on that 3rd and 5 picked up the 1st and kept the drive alive. Facing a 4th down, a run up the middle was stopped and Jamestown would get the ball at their own 37, 7:37 left in the game.

The Red & Green were able to push the ball down the field and eventually over the goal line, 13-7 Jamestown up, 4:53 left. The PAT was blocked by the Legends keeping them within stiking distance.

The next drive start for the Legends was their own 34, 1st and 10 with their backs against the wall. They would be looking at a 3rd and 10 after 2 incomplete passes. On that 3rd, the pass was caught and after a Jamestown penalty, 1st and 10 at the opponents 33. Soon after another 4th down and 1 crept up and the Legends ran the ball. This time they had enough for a 1st, keeping the ball in their hands. Two plays later, a pass to the endzone found a wide open WR, ball was caught, feet were in, Touchdown Legends, 2:17 left, 14-13 Lancaster up.

Jamestown would get the ball at their own 29 and ran 4 plays. The last one was a pass that was caught but came up short of a 1st down and they had to turn the ball over.

On the Legends first play after that, they ran up the middle and brought the ball to the 3 when the ball carrier stopped and fell to the ground, 1:05 left, 1st and goal. The Legends ran the ball and Jamestown would call time out. The clock ran down to 5 seconds when on 4th down the Legends were able to run the ball in, bringing the score to 20-13, A Lacaster win.
