Friday Night the Lancaster Legends begin the 2018 Playoffs by hosting the Williamsville North Spartans. This will be the 8th time the 2 football teams have met with Lancaster holding a 5-2 lead in the series. The winner of this game will be moving on and playing next week at New Era Field in the Section VI Championship Game.
The game will be a rematch of a Week 3 clash that saw the Legends come back to beat the Spartans 34-26. The Legends would face more than the Spartans that week as many players were out with flu like symptoms during the week of practice. The entire team had to step up for that road win and the Legends were up for the challenge that Friday night. More on that game Read about that game here!
This will be the 3rd year in a row that the Legends will face an opponent in the playoffs they had played in the regular season. In 2016, the 2nd round saw Lancaster meet up with Hutch Tech after having played them in week 6 of the regular season. The opening kickoff was brought back for 75 yards for a TD and after 1 quarter of play the score was 21-0. More on that game Lancaster vs Hutch Tech 2016
Last year the Jamestown Red Raiders were faced with playing Lancaster twice, the first in Jamestown in week 6 and again in the 2nd round of the playoffs. QB Ryan Mansell would throw 5 TD passes in the 1st half of that playoff game played at Foyle-Kling Field, in route to a 61-12 victory. More on that game Lancaster vs Jamestown
The squads met last year in the playoffs as well but that game was in Orchard Park at New Era Field for the right to be called Section VI Champs. Lancaster would prevail in that game as they held Williamsville North to 4 first half yards and a total of 41 yards for the game on 42 plays. More on that game 2017 Section VI Championship Game
Lancaster ended the regular season playing at Orchard Park and needed the win to get themselves the right to host the game Friday night. OP would earn the top seed in the conference with a W and they would host a game. The Quakers would go up early and head to the locker room leading 8-0 after securing a safety in the 2nd quarter. The 3rd quarter the Legends would get themselves on the board and grab control of the game. More on the game Lancaster vs OP
Bennett and Orchard Park are also playing Friday at All-High Stadium with both looking to move on to the Section VI Championship Game. These two teams met up in week 6 with OP winning 23-22. There was a 10 yard TD pass with under 3 minutes left in the game that would be the difference in this one as OP is on the road again for this meeting.
