The Buffalo News: Lancaster's quest for the state title has a generation of followers
On Sunday November 26th, 2017 the Lancaster Legends football team will be playing for a state championship, the first ever for a football team from Lancaster. The squad is 12-0 which is a record for most wins in a season. They have scored the most points in a season so far with 504 that breaks last years record of 445. The offense has also broken the most points scored in a game against Niagara Wheatfield with 61 and tied it again in the playoff game against Jamestown. Numerous players have reached marks never seen before from a player wearing the red and black until this year. Head Coach Rupp has a record of 22-1 and is still only in his second season as HC.
All of that will be put to the side on Sunday as they will be facing the 2016 Class AA State Champion Troy Flying Horses.

Troy comes into the game also undefeated at 12-0 from Section II. They won the state championship last season by defeating Victor 21-20. More on that game here. They have won 2 other state championships in 1998 and in 1996. The list of past champions can be found here.
Last week Troy played Newburgh Free Academy from Section IX and were able to pull out a W at Middletown High School 20-13. Troy/NFA can be found here/
Coming out of Section VI there are 2 other teams that have made it to Syracuse this weekend. Maple Grove, Class D faces off against Cambridge (Section II) with a Noon kickoff on Friday afternoon. West Seneca West, Class A will be playing Yorktown from Section I Friday at 3pm.
Last week the Legends traveled to Union-Endicott High School to meet Cicero-North Syracuse for the right to play in the state championship. Both teams had reached the semi-final game for the first time in schools history. Someone would be going home and the winner advancing another round. Lancaster jumped out to an early lead on a opening kickoff return for a touchdown, Legends up 6-0. A couple of weeks ago Lancaster made their way down the 90 to Brockport to play Aquinas of Section V in the Far West Regionals. The 2 squads came into the game 19-1 on the year and looking to move on in the state playoffs. The Legends would score a TD in the 1st half and the defense would do the rest as they pitched a shut out.

3 weeks ago the Legends headed to Orchard Park, NY to meet the Williamsville North Spartans and for the right to move on in the state playoffs. Lancaster would jump out early and as they were up 14-0 after 1 quarter. The half would see Lancaster ahead 21-0 and in control of the game. Section VI Championship Game!
A month ago Jamestown came to the town of Lancaster for the right to play at New Era Field and were soundly defeated by the Legends 61-12. Lancaster would tie a record for points scored in a game set this year against Niagara-Wheatfield. Read more of Lancaster/Jamestown here!
On Oct. 20th in the quarterfinals Lancaster played Hutch Tech and were able to get a win 35-0. Ryan Mansell went 12-19 passing for 166 yards and threw for 3 TD's. Read more about Lancaster/Hutch Tech!
Last year when Lancaster played in this contest they faced the Orchard Quakers and won 27-7 to move on in state playoffs. Lancaster would score two TD's in the 2nd quarter to get to the half up 14-0. They would get one touchdown in the 3rd and 4th before OP could answer with a score of their own. The Legends would win their first Section VI championship since 1999.
This will be the 1st ever meeting between Lancaster and Troy Flying Horses.
