Much going on in Class AA this week. Lancaster has finished its play in the Class and now waits to see where it will go. Bennett will play Orchard Park at All-High Stadium. Jamestown will welcome Lockport to Strider Field. Niagara Falls play Hutch Tech for its last regular season game of the year.

Athletes Give Back empowers student athletes to recognize that their voice, effort, and influence— both on and off the field — and carry the power to create change. In Memoriam
The Lancaster football and track families were saddened by the loss over the summer of longtime teacher and coach Kevin Carriero. Kevin retired as the varsity track and field coach in 2019 following a 48-year career. He's also remembered for his years as assistant coach of the junior varsity and modified football teams. Coach C. was 77 years old.
Kevin was compassionately cared for in his final days at home by his former athletes. Kevin clearly loved his athletes and they loved him. Coach C. had lived in a log cabin on Erie St. since 1991. He would tell his athletes no matter how far they traveled, Lancaster would always be home.
Kevin believed in his athletes and helped them realize their potential. He was loyal, dedicated and his love for Lancaster ran deep.
He earned the nickname “Miracle Man” by his doctors after surviving two bouts of cancer in 1999 and 2004.
Kevin was a 1965 graduate of Bennett High School where he was a basketball teammate of future NBA Hall of Famer, Bob Lanier. Kevin graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1969 and was immediately was hired by the Lancaster School District to teach physical education at Como Park.
He moved up to the High School in 1977 and remained there until his initial diagnosis of cancer in 1999 at age 49. He beat the odds again in 2004 when the cancer returned following numerous rounds of treatment. He returned to the school district in 2005 and worked 12 more years as a pool lifeguard.
Along with track, Kevin coached multiple sports including cross country, indoor track, junior varsity and modified levels of Lancaster football. His football coaching days started with the modified team in 1974. He later served as Dennis Beck’s assistant on the junior varsity from 1986-2002.

Junior Varsity - Lancaster vs Depew
End of an Era
Friday night will be the last Depew game to be played at Foyle-Kling Field. The game has been played since 1919. There were no games played between 1933-1940. The game was started back up as they schools were in the same conference.
The game was moved to the last game of the season in 1964 as Joe Foyle and Frank Constantino agreed to make the move. In 2018 the game was the last for Depew but not for Lancaster. The Legends would have to play Orchard Park that year as the playoffs would start a week later for Class AA than for Class B.
Next year will be the last game of the series. After decades of a staple in the Lancaster/Depew communities, the game will be an End of an Era.
