Friday night the Section VI Class AA playoffs will begin for Lancaster when Niagara Falls visits Foyle-Kling Field. The winner of this game will travel to Orchard Park next week to play at Highmark Stadium. They will meet the winner of the Bennett/Orchard Park game being played at OPHS.

Lancaster vs Depew

Lancaster started on defense and held Depew to a punt. The Legends offense came out at midfield and moved the ball into the redzone. They would face a 4th and inches at the 6 yard line when a Wildcat defense held and forced the turnover on downs.

The Depew offense came back out and were put in a 3rd and long when they passed the ball. Lancaster would pick off the pass and set up at the Depew 22 yard line.

They would make their way to the goal line and face 2nd and goal. They brought out the heavy unit and were able to cross into the endzone, 6-0, extra point no good.

The offense for the Wildcats came back out and would attempt another pass but the Legends defense picked it off again. Lancaster was set up deep in the Wildcat end. They would score another TD and go up 13-0.

Depew's offense had another chance at the ball but were unable to get any momentum and would punt the ball from their own endzone. The Lancaster rush made their way through the line and blocked the kick. The ball would go out of bounds and the Legends would get the safety, 15-0 Legends.

Off the free kick from Depew, the offense for the Legends would air it out. A pass hit the receiver down the Depew sidelines and get to inside the 5 yard line. Lancaster did not waste anytime as on 1st down, get the ball over the goal line, 21-0.

Lancaster would set up shop again near the endzone when a punt return got the ball to the Depew 6 yard line. On 1st down, the offense ran an option play and the RB hit the hole and 6 points, 27-0.

Depew would drive the ball to the Lancaster 15 but were unable to score and turned the ball over on downs. Depew would hold on defense and forced the Legends to punt on the next drive.

With just over a minute left in the half, Depew set up to punt the ball when the punter would have to jump on the ball giving the Legends 1st down in the redzone. Lancaster moved the ball to the 3 yard line and would face a 4th down. A run up the middle added to the score as the team put up another TD, 34-0.

In the 2nd half, Depew connected on a long pass and converted the 2 point conversion, Legends up 34-8.

Lancaster would come right back and would move the ball until they scored, bringing the score to what would be the final, 41-8.

Lancaster-Niagara Falls History

The Legends and Wolverines started to face each other back in 1921 and 1922. Both games were won by NF and both by shut out 27-0 in ‘21 and 37-0 in ‘22. The squads took a short break in playing until 1975 when there would be 2 more games played.

This time the teams would split with the Wolverines taking it in ‘75, 29-8 and Lancaster earning their first victory in ‘76, 12-6. There would be another lull in play until 1999. Since that year the teams have played each other 14 times with Lancaster having the edge in those games, 13-1.
