Friday night Lancaster and Depew will once again renew a rivalry for the 90th time. Lancaster leads the series 50-33-6. The series began back in the year 1919. There have been 6 ties in the series with the most recent one being in 1989, 0-0. There were 4 times when the squads would face off twice in one year, 1919, 1925, 1926, and 1932. There have been breaks in the game as well. From 1921-24, 1933-1940 the schools did not play one another. From 1941 to today, Lancaster and Depew have been playing continuously.

The schools would once again play each other in 1941 as they were part of the same conference. Depew would join Western New York Intermediate Conference which Lancaster was a member so the schools would have the other on their schedule.

In 1963, the coaches agreed to schedule the game at the end of the season so the players would have their rival to look forward to. From 1964 on, the game has been the last game of the season for both schools.

Coming into the game

The Wildcats come into the game with a 4-2 record while the Legends are 6-0 having finished Class play on top of the league. Williamsville North is also undefeated but still have yet finish out league play. Depew is in 3rd place in Section VI B-2 behind Albion and Dunkirk.

The Legends are riding high as they are 16-1 since the start of the 2016 season. They have not lost to a Section VI team since the 2015 season. The Legends averaging 47.6 points a game after 6 games. They have given up the second fewest points in Class AA with 78, WN has given up 72. They are the 1 seed for the playoffs, Everything you need to know about the playoffs!

Depew at a Glance

Depew is also coming into the game having a 4 game win streak of their own. They started the year 0-2 but have since bounced back to get into the playoff race. They are averaging 27 points a game while giving up 17.5 points. The Wildcats won a shootout last week against Olean 44-41.

Last Year

The 2016 Lancaster-Depew game was held at Foyle-Kling Field on Oct. 14th, 2017. The Legends were lead by a group of seniors who were also undefeated coming into the game. Depew was 2-4, looking to play spoiler to an undefeated Lancaster team. The Legends would jump out to an early lead when Zach Samborski raced to an 87 yard TD on the game's second play from scrimmage. Read about Lancaster vs Depew from 2015.

Coach Foyle and Coach Constantino

Friday nights game will be played at Frank Constantino Sports Complex at Depew High School. Coach Constantino was a long time coach for the Depew Wildcats and whose record was 178-88-17. Coach Foyle and Coach Constantino would face each other every fall for 25 years (1961-1985) in the Lancaster-Depew rivalry. Below is the winning coach of those games:
