Lancaster vs Depew Recap 10.19.19
This Friday Night the Lancaster Legends will be traveling to Depew High School to take on the Wildcats for the 92nd time. Lancaster leads the series 52-33-6 which dates back to 1919.
There were 4 times when the squads would face off twice in one year, 1919, 1925, 1926, and 1932. There have been breaks in the game as well. From 1921-24, 1933-1940 the schools did not play one another. From 1941 to today, Lancaster and Depew have been playing continuously.
The schools would have to play each other in 1941 as they were part of the same conference. Depew would join Western New York Intermediate Conference which Lancaster was a member so the schools would have the other on their schedule.
In 1963, the coaches agreed to schedule the game at the end of the season so the players would have their rival to look forward to. From 1964 on, the game has been the last game of the season for both schools except for 2018. The Class AA teams would play one more regular season game than the rest of the classes in WNY. The game would be the last for Depew but the Legends would still have OP on their schedule.
Coach Foyle of Lancaster and Coach Constantino of Depew met 25 times as head coaches of their respected teams from 1961-1985. Coach Foyle-12 wins, Coach Constantino-13 wins.
